Our Instructors

Dale Miller:
Dale began his studies of classical guitar at Butler University in 1973. He holds a Bachelor of Music degree from the University of New Mexico where he studied with Cuban guitarist Hector Garcia. After graduating from UNM, Dale played professionally with the group Juniper, an original folk and bluegrass band out of Santa Fe, New Mexico.

Dale's formal training continued with Maestro Ricardo Iznoala at the University of Denver. Dale has been the guitar instructor at Colorado College for the past ten years where he also directs the college's guitar ensemble. He has performed extensively throughout the Pike's Peak region as a classical guitarist.

 
Doug Zinn:
Doug began playing guitar at age 13. He played in rock bands throughout his junior high and high school years. After high school, Doug attended the University of New Mexico where he studied music formally with Cuban guitarist Hector Garcia.

Upon graduation from UNM, Doug played lead guitar with the group Juniper. After moving to Colorado Springs, Doug played with a variety of musical groups and as a solo act. Doug's professional highlights include recording an album of original music, attending a master class with guitar great Chet Atkins, and opening for country star Louise Mandrel.

 
Les Irvin:
Les studied guitar in college with Christopher Johnson of the University of South Dakota, who was a student of Christopher Parkening. Les performed in various senior recitals, accompanying vocal soloists.

Les has had the honor of performing with The Mitguards, a local Colorado Springs acoustic duo, and recording CDs with both them and with the London-based acoustic group Stryngs. Currently, in addition to teaching, Les is playing mandolin with a Colorado Springs-based bluegrass band Acme Bluegrass.
